Judy LaBelle has gotten off to a perfect start at the senior women’s provincial playdowns in Blind River.
LaBelle and her Fort Frances rink of third Mary Beth Tkachuk, second Maureen Thomson, and lead Trudy Badiuk downed Marion Clark (Port Arthur) 7-4 this morning to improve to 2-0.
The foursome needed just seven ends en route to a 10-3 win over Barbara Ward (Port Arthur) in their opener yesterday afternoon.
LaBelle jumped out to a quick lead against Ward with three in the first end.
Ward countered with a single in the second, but LaBelle put up deuces in the third and fourth ends to lead 7-1.
After Ward crawled to within 7-3 with a deuce in the fifth, LaBelle wrapped it up with two in the sixth and then a steal of one in the seventh.
This morning against Clark, the teams exchanged singles before LaBelle struck for a pair to lead 3-1after three.
LaBelle then played burglar, stealing one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one more in the sixth to forge ahead 7-1.
Clark managed singles in the seventh, eighth, and ninth ends to get to within 7-4, but the teams exchanged handshakes after that.
LaBelle was right back to the ice against Cristiene Hall-Teravainen of Port Arthur (0-2) this afternoon (the outcome wasn’t known by press time).
The champion will advance to the nationals March 20-27 in Ottawa, with the worlds slated April 16-24 in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
