Donald Young School’s 2010 musical production will be “Beauty and the Beast.”
Performances will take place Feb. 24-26 starting at 7 p.m.
Tickets, which will be available at the door, cost $10 for adults and $6 for seniors (children under 12 are free).
By all accounts, this year’s musical will continue the tradition of great presentations by the students of Donald Young School.

This month’s men’s breakfast will be held this Saturday (Feb. 20) at the Emo Legion. Doors will open at 7:45 a.m., with the buffet breakfast beginning at 8 a.m.
The guest speaker this month will be Pastor Dan Vos from the Christian Reformed Church in Emo.
Pastor Dan and his wife, Lisa, have been a valuable part of the community over last four years. They are planning on leaving in the spring in order to further Dan’s education.
The organizers are pleased that Pastor Dan has consented to share his message with the men.

Those on hand for this month’s “Country Jam” on Friday night at the Emo Legion enjoyed another evening of old-time music.
Musicians and music-lovers from far and wide were on hand to hear Vern Silver (Atikokan), Don Wagar and Harold Singbeil (Ignace), and Mary Curtis (Emo). Emily Smith played the accordion while Dr. George Elliot (fiddle) and Bob Smith (harmonica) added to the festivities.
On guitar were Bob Wepruk, Lawrence Bellamy, Donna Heyens, Patti Brown, Charleen Gustafson, Morris Halverson (Nestor Falls), and Carl White (Whitefish Bay). Drummers included Dave Novac from Baudette and Maurice Betournay from Atikokan.
Maurice’s better half, Terry, added her voice to several songs, as did many of the performers.
The Country Jam’s reputation of providing an evening of “old-time music” definitely has spread across the district and beyond, attracting music-lovers from Kenora, Dryden, and all over Northwestern Ontario.
Visitors to the area even have made an effort to attend.
The next “Country Jam” will take place March 26 at the Emo Legion.

The Rainy River District Women’s Institute is hosting a Heritage Day celebration lunch this Friday (Feb. 19) from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the United Church in Emo.
A good, hearty, hot lunch will be available for only $8.
There also will be a penny table and a bake table, with proceeds from the luncheon going towards maintaining the W.I. Museum in Emo.
