Tim Nordin just couldn’t quite squeeze a lead on his first day at the men’s provincial playdowns in Sudbury.
Nordin and his Stratton rink of third Mitch Seguin, second Mike Badiuk, and lead Travis Showalter dropped both their games yesterday, falling 8-7 in 11 ends to Tim Phillips (Sudbury) and then 8-4 to John Salo (Geraldton).
Against Phillips, Nordin’s comeback effort was scuttled in the extra end. Trailing 7-5 going into the ninth, Nordin notched a single before stealing one in the 10th to tie the score.
Phillips took advantage of having the hammer in the 11th, however, scoring the needed point to escape with the win.
Nordin had held early leads against Phillips, forging ahead 3-1 after two and 5-3 after four, but the Sudbury skip counted three in the fifth for his first lead of the game—and never trailed after that point.
Nordin also jumped out to a lead in his game against Salo, leading 3-1 after three.
After Salo tallied two in the fourth, Nordin went up 4-3 with a single in the fifth.
But Salo took over from there, tying things up at four after six, then stealing singles in four-straight ends to seal the win.
Nordin never had the luxury of a lead this morning in his 7-4 loss to Mike Pozihun (Port Arthur).
Nordin allowed a single to Pozihun in the first end before giving up a steal of two in the second.
He got on the board with a single in the third, but Pozihun put up another pair in the fifth to lead 5-1.
The rinks traded singles in the sixth and seventh ends before Nordin clawed to within 6-4 with two in the eighth.
But Pozihun wrapped up the win with a single in the ninth to improve to 2-1 while Nordin dropped to 0-3.
Nordin will look for his first win tonight against Joe Scharf of Port Arthur (1-1).
