If undefeated seasons were easy to achieve, everybody would pull off the feat.
After starting the season on an 18-0 run, the Muskie boys’ hockey team finally met their match a couple of different times over the weekend at the 19th-annual Genesis Hospitality tournament in Brandon, Man.
After blanking the Sanford Collegiate Sabres 6-0 in their tourney opener last Thursday, the black-and-gold had the day off Friday.
But the extra rest looked more like rust when Fort High finally returned to the ice as the Muskies were downed 5-3 by the Westwood Warriors (Winnipeg).
Cam Fehr, Bobby Asham, Kyle Little, Brenden Lushchinski, and Josh Kazuk all scored for the Warriors while Donovan Cousineau netted a natural hat trick in the third period in a losing cause.
Brendan Cawston chipped in two assists for the Muskies.
That put the black-and-gold in the ‘B’-side semi-finals against the Carman Collegiate Cougars, who had no answer for either Fort High’s shooters or goalie as the Muskies cruised to a 6-0 victory.
But in the ‘B’ final, the Muskies fell 5-2 to the Garden Valley Collegiate Zodiacs (Winkler, Man.)
The goal scorers from both those games were not available by press time.
Winnipeg’s Vincent Massey Trojans beat the host Crocus Plains Plainsmen 5-2 to capture the ‘A’ final.
Fort High returns to NorWOSSA action this Friday night (Dec. 11) against the Kenora Broncos at the Ice For Kids Arena.
