Hoopsters underdogs against Hammarskjold

Staff

To beat a perfect team, it takes a perfect performance.
That’s what the Muskie senior girls’ basketball team will need this weekend against Thunder Bay’s Hammarskjold Vikings in the best-of-three NWOSSAA final at Fort High.
Game 1 tipped off at 3:30 p.m. today, with Game 2 set for tomorrow at 10 a.m.
Game 3, if necessary, will go tomorrow at 2 p.m.
The winner moves on to the OFSAA ‘AA’ showdown Nov. 26-28 in Belleville.
The Muskies advanced to the NWOSSAA playoffs by virtue of their 28-12 defeat of the host Kenora Broncos at the NorWOSSA final last Thursday (Nov. 12).
But the challenge will be much tougher on Fort High’s home court against a Vikings’ team which annihilated the competition in the Thunder Bay league this year.
Hammarskjold, led by league all-star point guard Katie Ulakovic, went 14-0 in league play, including a 2-0 sweep of the St. Ignatius Falcons in the best-of-three final.
The Muskies will need another lockdown defensive effort like it showed against Kenora, coupled with a balanced scoring attack from the likes of Kayla Windigo, Sara Roach, and Jolene Stahn.
