The Rainy River Federation of Agriculture’s annual meeting was held Saturday (Nov. 7) in the Chapple community hall in Barwick.
The evening began with an excellent meal of ham, perogies, and salads. RRFA president Rick Neilson then thanked everyone for coming before launching into the business section of the meeting.
The executive and most of the zone reps were re-elected to their various positions. A couple of new reps also were added to the list.
Guest speakers MPP Howard Hampton, Dick Trivers, and Don Murray, a consultant with Harry Cummings and Associates Inc., spoke to those on hand.
The common theme for the evening was that agriculture is an important and growing activity here in Rainy River District, which positively impacts the local economy, and that locally-grown food is a concept that’s catching on across North America.

The next “Country Jam” is scheduled to take place this Friday (Nov. 13) at the Emo Legion.
Musicians from all over the district have met once a month at the Legion for some time now to sing and play their favourite country songs.
“Old-time” country music fans from far and near also have gathered to enjoy the entertainment and to dance to some of the familiar tunes.
The bar is always open, and the Legion’s kitchen staff has been cooking up some excellent wings and other delicious treats.
If you have not yet attended a “Country Jam,” be sure to mark this Friday on your calendar.

Knox United Church in Emo will be hosting a special evening of Christmas music on Saturday (Nov. 14) starting at 7 p.m.
“Sounds of Holiday Cheer” will feature the entertaining sounds of the Borderland Children’s Choir, directed by Diane Maxey.
The cost of admission ($10/person or $25/family) will include tickets for the “Shiny Penny Table,” desserts, coffee, tea, and an evening of enjoyable entertainment.
The penny table will feature fantastic “theme baskets.”
Following the evening’s entertainment, the “theme baskets” will be on display at Meyers Clothing in Emo, with the final draw for these baskets to take place during “Holly Daze” festivities in Emo in early December.
Start your Christmas season with the fantastic “Sounds of Holiday Cheer,” with tickets only available at the church when the doors open for the evening.

The Emo “Holly Daze” committee will be hosting a “Beautiful Baby” contest. If you have a beautiful baby who is under 18 months of age and you would like to enter him/her in the contest, contact Cheryl at Meyers Clothing (482-2893).
The voting, which will take place during “Holly Daze” on Dec. 3-5, will be done by shoppers dropping coins in the bucket of their choice.
Funds raised from this event will go to a local charity still to be determined.
