The Fort Frances Lakers are back in action tonight (Nov. 6) when they host the K&A Wolverines (Thunder Bay) at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
The Lakers sport a 5-9-2 record going into the game after splitting their home-and-home series with the Sioux Lookout Flyers earlier this week.
The Wolverines, meanwhile, sit in last place in the SIJHL at 2-12-2.
The Lakers then will welcome the first-place Fort William North Stars (13-1) to town this Sunday at 3:30 p.m. (note the change in start time).
The Lakers couldn’t stretch their winning streak to three games Wednesday night in Sioux Lookout as the Flyers came through with a 7-4 decision.
Fort Frances had posted back-to-back wins for the first time this season heading into the game, but were unable to sweep the home-and-home series after taking the opener 4-2 at the Ice For Kids Arena on Tuesday night.
In that game, Tyler Stevenson, Jordan Sinclair, and Blake Boaz paced the host Lakers to a 3-0 lead before the first period was 11 minutes old.
A.J. Wensley and Kalan Ewald trimmed the lead to one with second-period goals, but Byron Katapaytuk tallied an empty-netter with 16 seconds to go to seal the victory for Fort Frances.
Goal scorers for Wednesday night’s game were unavailable.
The Lakers remain four points behind the Flyers (8-9) for third place heading into action tonight.
