The Fort Frances Lakers fell to 1-4-1 on the SIJHL season after a 5-4 overtime loss to the host Dryden Ice Dogs last night.
The Lakers had jumped out to a 2-0 lead on first-period goals by Jake Ransom and Henry Gutierrez, but the hosts stormed back with three unanswered goals in the second.
The Ice Dogs (4-1) extended their lead to 4-2 early in the third, but the Lakers salvaged a point with two late goals by Jordan Carne and Blake Boaz.
Kyle Heck, with his second of the night, netted the game-winner in overtime.
Garrett Nystedt, Ben McClellan, and Mike Lennon also scored for Dryden.
The Lakers’ offence, which had just 13 goals over their first five games, had their best offensive output of the season despite the loss.
At the other end of the ice, Zac McMichael, in his third start of the season, stopped 45 of 50 shots.
Brett Timmerman made 25 saves for the Ice Dogs.
Elsewhere in the SIJHL last night, the defending champion Fort William North Stars scored twice in the third period to nip the K&A Wolverines 2-1.
The Lakers, meanwhile, are back in action tomorrow night when they host the Sioux Lookout Flyers (4-3) at the Ice For Kids Arena at 7:30 p.m.
