It’s set to be a musical weekend as the inaugural Fort Frances Folk Festival kicks off tomorrow afternoon.
With the gates opening at noon, there are over 20 acts lined up for this weekend’s event taking place at Little Beaver Snow Park.
Headlining the day will be Winnipeg musician, J.P. Hoe, who is set to play at 8:15 p.m. Other out of district acts include Thunder Bay’s “The Auditor General” and Kenora’s “The Me Monster” who will be taking the stage before J.P.Hoe.
With the first act—Fort Frances Highlanders Pipes and Drums—kicking things off at 12:50 p.m. the afternoon will feature plenty of local talent, including such acts as Maverick Judson; Katelyn Shortreed and Jeff Gustafson; Lauren Gurksi and Michael McCaig; Joelle Barron and Alex Marusyk; Triptych; Myron Hawrylak; as well as the Mud Lake City Boys.

Alongside the music, other activities have been slated throughout the afternoon. From 2-5 p.m., there will be a kiddie tent with activities supplied by the Fort Frances Museum, as well as free yoga lessons.
At least five vendors will be at the festival, selling homemade arts and crafts, food and other items. The bigger bands such as J.P. Hoe, The Me Monster and the Auditor General will also be selling merchandise. The organizing committee has also brought in Fort Frances Folk Festival t-shirts and buttons, but with only 150 in stock, those who want them are encouraged to buy them right away.
Tickets are still available at Sight and Sound Audiotronic, the Fort Frances Museum, and Fort Frances Library, costing $20 those 19 and older, $15 for ages 15-18, $10 for ages 6-14, and free for children five and under. Tickets are 2$ more at the door.
For those attending the festival, a gate will be set up a little road to Little Beaver Snow Park, where volunteers will be checking tickets and giving out wristbands. Volunteers will also be checking coolers and all bags to ensure concert goers are not bringing in alcohol or glass.
