With some choppy waves to ride on this year, it was Curtis Boivin who came out on top at the annual bathtub races held at Pither’s Point Park in conjunction with Canada Day activities.
With a quick start from the beach, Boivin—now the winner for three years in a row—held a steady lead against the three other contenders to place first in the two five-lap heats as well as the five-lap final race.
Coming in second each time was another former champion, Ken Rousseau, who just wasn’t able to match Boivin’s speed.
Third place in both heats and the final race went to René Boivin, who returned to Fort Frances all the way from Burlington to compete this year.
Meanwhile, longtime participant Len Bedard took fourth.
Coming in last during the first heat, Bedard sat out the second one to swap his motor.
While a test run around the markers showed promise, Bedard still came in fourth for the final.
With Rainy Lake’s waves as rough as they were, the $580 in prize money was split up evenly between the racers.
