The 44th biennial convention of the Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario Command of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion was held in Winnipeg from June 15-17.
The Fort Frances auxiliary was represented by Sylvia Gunderson, Diane Taggart, Delores Cross, and Lorine Ring.
The Provincial Council, which started in 1922, is comprised of eight districts which cover the entire province of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario.
The local auxiliary is part of District 7, which includes Dryden, Ear Falls, Atikokan, Kenora, Keewatin, Red Lake, and Rainy River.
The Provincial Council is responsible for overseeing operations of the ladies’ auxiliary throughout the area.
At the convention, Alfreda Easton of Fort Frances was elected president of the Provincial Council.
An active member of the Br. #29 auxiliary for more than 40 years, Easton was the district commander for seven years and the deputy commander prior to that.
She already has served as president of the auxiliary in Fort Frances, and currently holds the position of first vice-president.
Easton is the first auxiliary member from Fort Frances to be elected to the office of president of the Provincial Council—a position she will hold for two years.
