The Township of Alberton will hold a public meeting next Wednesday (June 24) to discuss an application to rezone a portion of land in Crozier.
The prospective purchaser is Weechi-it-te-win Family Services, and the proposed use of the property is to relocate the Training and Learning Centre (TLC) from Watten Township.
The centre is a “culturally-specific education facility” for native and non-native youth aged 12-17 who “require placement in a formal treatment setting.”
According to its mission statement, TLC’s goal is to provide those youth with “professional and culturally-appropriate residential training and education services.”
The land in question, located along Highway 11/71, currently is zoned as “business park” but would be rezoned to “institutional” should the proposed bylaw amendment be passed by Alberton council.
An information package about the proposal is available at the Alberton municipal office.
Anyone wanting to make a submission regarding the proposal can do so at the public meeting, which is slated for 7 p.m. at the municipal office, or by written submission to Alberton council before the bylaw comes up for a vote.
The earliest council might make a decision will be at its July 8 regular meeting, although councillors can choose to delay the decision if they feel they have insufficient information at that time.
