One new fire was reported in the West Fire Region yesterday.
A FireRanger crew was dispatched to Fort Frances District Fire #7, which was located about 10 km west of Fort Frances on Highway 611 North.
A tree over a power line sparked the blaze that burned an area less than 0.1 hectares in size before being extinguished, local MNR fire operation supervisor Marnie Brown noted this morning.
Otherwise, it was quiet across the region, with no other new fire starts and currently no active blazes.
Since the fire season began April 1, there has been a total of 58 fires in the West Fire Region, consuming 26 ha.
The fire hazard currently is “moderate” in Fort Frances District. But with sunny, relatively dry weather in the forecast for the week ahead, the hazard is expected to rise, warned Brown. adding the public is reminded to use extreme caution with any outdoor fires.
