Thunder Bay-Rainy River riding is getting just under $280,000 in federal funding for summer jobs.
MP John Rafferty said the Canada Summer Jobs funding will create 128 jobs for students at more than 90 different projects.
“We worked in conjunction with Service Canada to ensure the jobs were spread right across the riding, and to put young people to work in our region,” Rafferty said.
The funding will go to employers in both the public and non-profit sectors.
Some of the communities that will benefit include Fort Frances, Emo, Rainy River, Barwick, Stratton, Morson, Atikokan, Upsala, and Kakabeka Falls.
The unemployment rate for Canadians aged 18-30 is 15 percent—almost double the overall national unemployment rate of eight percent.
