We would like to express our dismay over parking tickets issued to guests attending the funeral of my father, Chuck Westover, at St. John’s Anglican Church on Tuesday, May 12.
Given the heavy rain as guests were arriving, the fact that Victoria Avenue was blocked south of Church Street, and that many of the guests were 70+ and some not in good health, we are shocked that many of those who parked on the south side of Church Street received parking tickets.
Surely the officer in question should have used better judgement and discretion.
Complaints to the police and the town have been useless. “Too bad” was the stock answer.
We do wish to thank Celeste’s and Shopper’s Drug Mart for parking done at their establishments.
It seems we have lost our compassion in the time of other’s sorrow.
We find it ironic that you see other cars/boats and vehicles illegally parked on the streets away from the downtown core for weeks at a time without receiving tickets, but during a funeral it is time to get out the ticket book.
Our wish is that the town donate the proceeds from the parking tickets to the Fort Frances Dialysis Unit.
