An Ontario hunter was fined $1,500 for unlawfully shooting a cow moose.
Harvey Thain, 49, of Ear Falls, pleaded guilty to shooting a cow moose when he was licensed to only hunt a calf moose.
He was charged under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, and is prohibited from hunting in Ontario for one year.
The moose was forfeited to the Crown and subsequently donated to the Red Lake Homeless Shelter.
Court heard that Thain misidentified and shot the moose back on Nov. 26.
Justice of the Peace Marjorie Pasloski heard the case April 8 in Red Lake.
The Ministry of Natural Resources reminds hunters to immediately report animals shot accidentally.
