The Fort High athletic department is accepting applications for coaching positions for the next school year.
“I don’t think we have to make any changes based on people wanting out or who we need to remove, but you never know if someone decides not to continue later on,” FFHS co-athletic director Shane Bliss explained.
“We run an internal [notice] through the school board and also one for the public so everyone has an opportunity at it,” he added.
Bliss said you can never have enough of a good thing.
“We are always looking for names in case one of our coach’s is looking to add a person to their staff or are not interested in returning,” he noted.
“Sometimes people will step down or decide to take the year off or something, and this way we are covered.”
Aside from the obvious unpaid time commitment, coaching jobs often come with their fair share of scrutiny—and that has resulted in lukewarm interest at best in previous years.
“We take names for any sport, but typically over the last three or four years that we’ve done this, we’ll be surprised if we get more than three or four,” Bliss said.
Those interested can apply through Bliss or John Gibson at 274-7747 ext. 251 or via e-mail at sbliss@mail.rrdsb.com or jgibson@mail.rrdsb.com
