Public elementary occasional teachers, members of the Rainy River Occasional Teacher Local of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO), have reached a tentative agreement with the Rainy River District School Board.
Details of the agreement will be available following a members’ ratification vote.
“Guaranteed, negotiated working conditions for occasional teachers provide a supportive school environment that benefits student learning,” said ETFO president David Clegg.
“Occasional teachers are fully-qualified professionals who are certified by the College of Teachers,” he noted.
“This new agreement recognizes the experience and qualifications our members bring to the classroom every day,” Clegg added.
“The ETFO bargaining team has worked very long and hard to secure a deal that will benefit our members,” said Mickey Christiansen, president of the Rainy River Occasional Teacher Local.
The local represents about 85 public elementary occasional teachers.
Their last contract expired Aug. 31, 2008.
The ETFO represents 73,000 elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province, and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
