The local Right Relations Circle is sponsoring a presentation on the history and the future of Pither’s Point Park tomorrow (April 16) at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit (824 Victoria Ave.)
Attorney Clint Calder will provide an historical legal overview, and there will be time for questions, group input, and discussion.
This is a timely topic for residents of Fort Frances, as well as members of Stanjikoming, Naicatchewenin, Couchiching, and Nigigioonsiminikaaning First Nations, because the 99-year lease on the park land comes due at the end of April.
Thus far, there has been very little official information or public discussion.
Calder is uniquely positioned to provide a framework for this issue.
After many years of practising commercial and corporate law in Vancouver and Toronto, he returned to his hometown of Fort Frances in 2006, where his current practice focuses on aboriginal law, with an emphasis on aboriginal business ventures, First Nations’ land claims, and general business law with area First Nations and tribal agencies.
Calder also is a proud member of his local Métis community and currently sits as president of the Sunset Country Métis Council.
He also is on the board of several local aboriginal social agencies.
The Right Relations Circle is a group of ordinary people who have come together to promote just and equitable relationships so that all communities can work together for right relations with our economic, social, and natural environment.
We do this through providing a respectful space for sharing, and through self-education and action.
