TBayTel helping with phone recall

Press Release

TBayTel announced yesterday that it is supporting LG Electronics Canada Inc. in its voluntary recall of roughly 2,400 LG 150 model phones in use by TBayTel customers with a no-charge phone replacement program.
LG was notified by one of the independent bodies responsible for the certification of mobile phones that the LG 150 mobile phone no longer is certified as meeting the Radio Standards Specifications 102 (RSS 102), Radio Frequency Exposure Compliance of Radiocommunication Apparatus.
Consequently, LG has decided to implement a voluntary recall of the LG 150 phone in Canada.
The LG 150 was sold in Canada by Bell Mobility, Virgin Mobile, MTS Allstream, SaskTel, Aliant Mobility, KMTS, NorthernTel, Sogetel, Télébec, and TBayTel.
Health Canada believes, based on the review of test results and its assessment of current science, that past and current use of the LG 150 should not pose immediate or long-term health concerns.
“We are supporting LG in the implementation of its LG 150 recall program,” said Kevin Burns, Vice-President, Strategic and Business Affairs, TBayTel.
“Effective today [Jan. 27], our customers who own the LG 150 phone can take advantage of the straightforward and no-cost phone replacement program we’ve put in place.”
No other LG phones, and no other phones supplied by TBayTel by any other manufacturers, are affected by this recall.
TBayTel customers with LG 150 model phones can return them to a participating TBayTel Mobility dealer or the TBayTel Thunder Centre Retail Store until March 31, 2009 and receive a replacement phone at no cost.
