Abitibi to take holiday shutdown

Due to poor market conditions for both kraft and paper products, all production at AbitibiBowater’s Fort Frances operations will be shut down for one week, starting Wednesday, Dec. 24, the company reported this morning.
Operations will resume Friday, Jan. 2.
Mill manager John Harrison said this morning the downtime will affect about 500 mill workers, with essential services continuing.
Union representatives were notified late yesterday.
The company had announced last month that all production at AbitibiBowater’s operations here would be shut down for one week, starting Nov. 23.
It later postponed that shutdown, but indicated the order situation would continue to be reviewed and likely would require downtime before the end of the year.
