All three Fort Frances Bantam ‘B’ squads had strong showings at the Pizza Hut/Grand Portage Lodge and Casino 20th-annual Bantam ‘B’ tournament over weekend in Thunder Bay.
Canadian Tire won gold with an 8-6 win over the Holmlund Leafs in the all-Fort Frances final.
Fort Frances’ other team in the division, the Wal-Mart Thrashers, had lost 7-5 to Canadian Tire in the semi-finals.
Brayden Botsford and Cole Quesnel had two goals apiece for Canadian Tire in the final while Nolan Ross, James McKee, Aaron Kellar, and Justin Lee netted singles.
Ryan Mosbeck and Sam Berube replied with two markers apiece for the Leafs, with Chad Galusha and Danielle Jean adding the other goals.
All three Fort Frances squads had brought perfect 4-0 records into the medal round.
The Holmlund Leafs opened action with a 7-1 win over the Thunder Bay Elks, then beat the Norwest Stars 10-4 in their second game.
Mosbeck had seven goals in the onslaught while Berube, Galusha, and Jacob Dokuchie scored the others for the Leafs.
They next blanked the Volunteer Pool Bearcats 7-0. Mosbeck potted four more while Dokuchie turned the hat trick to round out the scoring.
The Leafs closed the round-robin with a 9-2 thrashing of the Westfort Rangers. Mosbeck notched five more goals while Dokuchie and Jean had two apiece.
In the semi-finals, the Leafs beat the Bearcats again, winning 4-1 to advance to the final. Galusha netted two in that one, with Jean and Mosbeck adding one each.
Canadian Tire, meanwhile, beat the Stars 9-3, Elks 8-3, Rangers 4-0, and the Bearcats 6-4 en route to the semi-finals.
They then beat the other two Fort Frances squads in the medal round to claim top honours.
The Wal-Mart Thrashers beat the Rangers 7-2, Bearcats 6-4, Stars 3-1, and Elks 5-0 in the round-robin before losing to Canadian Tire in the semi-finals.
