The Rainy River District School Board will have a choice to fill its vacant trustee seat after all.
Terry Higgins and Jason Kabel submitted applications prior to the yesterday’s 3 p.m. deadline, board chair Dan Belluz confirmed this morning.
A third person had applied but was disqualified, the board said.
The vacancy arose after Donna Dittaro submitted her resignation at the board’s Nov. 4 meeting.
Citing the cost of holding an election, trustees instead opted to pass a resolution that would see the position filled through an appointment by the board, in accordance with the Education Act.
Interviews of the two candidates will be held during a special board meeting scheduled for Monday (Dec. 1) starting at 6:30 p.m.
The selected candidate then will be sworn in at the board’s regular monthly meeting the following night.
The term for this trustee position, which represents the Town of Fort Frances and unorganized areas east of town, will run from Dec. 2, 2008-Nov. 30, 2010.
