Walker going ‘green’ with cleaning supplies

J.W. Walker School here is the site of a pilot project that will see 100 percent of its cleaning supplies go “green.”
The project is part of the Rainy River District School Board’s commitment to being environmentally-friendly, said Raymond Roy, the board’s manager of plant operations and maintenance.
Crossroads School in Devlin already has gone “green” with its cleaning supplies thanks to the initiatives of the custodians there.
If this current project works well at J.W. Walker, then all public board schools across the district will make the switch, noted Roy.
While many products make the claim of being “green,” those being used at Walker will be ones certified by Environment Canada’s “EcoLogo” program.
Consumers may be familiar with EcoLogo since certified products feature the logo of a Maple Leaf made out of birds.
In Canada, the EcoLogo program is managed on behalf of the federal government by TerraChoice Environmental Marketing.
Products with the EcoLogo certification have been evaluated based on criteria that minimizes the impact it has on the environment and human health.
