Heron Landing hosted the final tournament of the short NorWOSSA golf season last week, with two Muskies qualifying for the NWOSSAA showdown later this week in Thunder Bay.
“Alex McDonald and Kevin Jackson both qualified for NWOSSAA as individuals,” Fort High athletic director Shane Bliss noted. “We’d like to get down there Thursday for a practice round.
“I think Alex was fourth overall in total points, but the two of them were one and two in individual qualifying outside of the team scores since we never really had enough golfers to qualify for the team [rankings],” Bliss added.
Taylor Jorgenson made his lone appearance of the golf season for Fort High during the tournament at Heron Landing, carding a 75 to tie Brett Lawrence of Red Lake for the tournament-low score.
He won’t be attending the NWOSSAA final, however, due to prior commitments.
Dryden shot the lowest combined team total at the tournament here, but finished second to Red Lake in the overall team standings. Kenora will be the third team representing NorWOSSA in Thunder Bay.
“Thunder Bay is tough, some good golfers down there, and Red Lake always has a good, strong team,” Bliss said. “They’ve been down to OFSAA a few times now.
“But hopefully we can get a [practice] round in and get the boys [McDonald and Jackson] used to the green speed and the layout of the course because they are both capable of shooting a low score and with one round, anything can happen,” he added.
