A full house crowded into the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #54 in Rainy River on Sunday evening to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Evangelical Covenant Church in the community.
The nearly 150 members and guests from Rainy River and across the district were treated to a delicious roast beef dinner prepared by head chef Mark Douglas and his able crew.
During dinner, Mike McInerney provided a flute solo. Then later, the “Messengers“ (featuring Gerry Jolicoeur, Gary Smith, and Kevin McLain) offered a spirited musical program.
Pastor Mark Mast, who acted as emcee for the evening, updated the gathering on the progress of the new church now under construction west of 8th Street.
He noted occupation of the new facility is projected for either Christmas or next spring, “depending on whether you are an optimist or a pessimist.”
Guest speaker was Pastor Doug Doyle from the Redwood Alliance Church in Thunder Bay, who outlined the “risks” Christians from earliest times up to the present day have taken in spreading their beliefs.
He challenged all to continue to take “risks” in pursuit of their faith.
