Almost six weeks after being injured in an electrical mishap at the AbitibiBowater mill here, a benefit dinner and dance will be held early next month in support of co-op student Dennis Mutz and his family.
Mutz was completing an electrical apprenticeship at the local mill when he was badly burned by an electrical arc along with two mill employees.
The student, who suffered burns to his face and arm, was rushed to Toronto for treatment following the accident.
“Dennis is doing great,” said organizer Lucille McDonald, who is a family friend. “Everything looks really good considering.”
Now back at home, Mutz has registered for college and is healing well.
But despite his quick healing, McDonald said Mutz will not be able to work anytime soon.
“It’s going to take a little more time,” she said of the burns to his arm.
To help the family cover expenses incurred as a result of the accident, a benefit dinner and dance will be held Saturday, Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Emo Legion. Tickets cost $15 each.
Music will be provided by Lisa McPherson, who has donated her services free of charge for the evening.
Only 200 tickets are available, and anyone unable to attend but who still would like to show their support need not be left out.
Just purchase the ticket, sign the back, and return it to the vendor, noted McDonald. That way, the Mutz family will know of the purchaser’s good intentions, she added.
McDonald is hoping to sell all the tickets. “I appreciate all the support that we’ve been getting for the benefit,” she remarked.
Tickets are available at Dev-Lynne’s, Greensides, and the Devlin post office.
