Local golfer Alex McDonald advanced to the Maple Junior Golf Tour championship in Phoenix, Az. from Nov. 19-21 after finishing fifth in the boys’ 17-19 division in the Manitoba loop.
McDonald, 18, was the highest-finishing non-Winnipegger, as he earned 565 points on the circuit.
As well, Michael Nelson and Sophie Potvin-Begin qualified to compete in the 2011 BMO Skate Canada National Challenge in Mississauga in December.
The pair advanced by winning their respective divisions in the Skate Canada Northern Ontario Sectional Competition in Huntsville over the weekend.
Nelson advanced twice, from pre-novice singles as well as with partner Potvin-Begin in the pre-novice pairs division.
Jillian Bobczynski also competed well, but did not advance.
