Staff at the West Fire Region’s forest fire management centre are reporting an increasing number of general inquiry calls being made to the emergency forest fire reporting number.
This can pose a risk to people if someone is trying to report a forest fire and the line is busy with a general inquiry.
It’s important for everyone to know the forest fire reporting number in the West Fire Region (1-888-284-3473) is for forest fire reporting only—not for general questions.
Most of the general questions that have come in on the emergency fire reporting line should be placed to local MNR district offices or other agencies, including inquiries on the Outdoors Card, removal of dead animals on roadways, information on fish, ticks, rabies, and deer tag applications, or complaints about management of nuisance wildlife.
In other news, no new fires were reported in the West Fire Region by the end of yesterday.
The fire hazard remains “moderate to low” across the region, with the forecast for the coming days promising a continued mix of sun and rain with thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Ontario continues to support other provinces and the Northwest Territories with personnel and equipment.
There is a planning specialist, an air attack officer, and an air attack officer trainee from the West Fire Region in the Northwest Territories, and a fire behaviour analyst from the East Fire Region in British Columbia.
As well, there is equipment from both regions in Saskatchewan and British Columbia.
