District Tae Kwon Do students attend meet

Nine students of the Northwest Tae Kwon Do club attended Grandmaster Kang’s Can-Am games Tae Kwon Do tournament at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg on Saturday.
All nine competed in the forms competition:
•Terry Martin of Fort Frances (green belt blue stripe);
•Dawn Martin of Fort Frances (green belt blue stripe);
•Amber Martin of Fort Frances (green belt blue strip)—bronze medal;
•Alex Woknitz of Fort Frances (green belt);
•Cole Turcotte of Fort Frances (red stripe);
•Maria Vandenbrand of Stratton (blue belt);
•Jake Vandenbrand of Stratton (green stripe)—bronze medal;
•Lindsay Bourre of Rainy River (black stripe)—gold medal; and
•Owen Williams of Emo (red stripe)—bronze medal.
Six students also competed in full contact fighting:
•Alex Woknitz;
•Dawn Martin—bronze medal;
•Amber Martin—gold medal;
•Cole Turcotte—bronze medal;
•Lindsay Bourre—gold medal; and
•Owen Williams—bronze medal.
Considering there were more than 300 competitors, and most of the local students were first-time competitors, the tournament was very successful.
Tae Kwon Do classes are instructed by Master Ken Anderson at Fort Frances High School on Monday and Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. and 8:15-9:15 p.m. as well as Tuesdays and Thursdays at the same times at Our Lady of the Way School in Stratton.
