Man fined $1,200

A former Sioux Lookout man has been fined $800 for lying to a conservation officer and $400 for having a loaded firearm in a vehicle.
Conrad J. Wesley, 37, of Winnipeg, Man., pleaded guilty under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act. The Crown seized the rifle, which will be returned to Wesley once he pays the fine.
On Oct. 29, 2006, Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers from Sioux Lookout District checked Wesley as he was driving on Highway 516 north of Sioux Lookout.
The officers asked Wesley if he had firearms in the vehicle. Wesley told the officers he had a rifle, which turned out to be loaded after the officers inspected it.
Wesley told the officers he had been to a recently-logged area to check on equipment for his boss. The officers checked with a forestry company in the area and learned that Wesley’s employer had not worked for the company in months.
The officers also inspected the area and found no operations or equipment.
Justice of the Peace Bruce Leaman heard the case April 8 in Thunder Bay.
