Busy Saturday night in district

Saturday night is going to be so busy in the centre of the Rainy River District that Stratton had to postpone a planned event.
With a cowboy poet, a casino, two dances, a bonspiel, a golden wedding anniversary, and food everywhere, the towns of Barwick, Emo, and Devlin all will be hopping.
But the Stratton recreation society won’t be having its ham dinner talent show.
With everything else going on, organizer Patti Brown said they decided to reschedule at their meeting Monday night meeting if they can find a suitable date.
That way, Stratton residents will be able to take part in the other events down the road.
First off, the Rainy River Federation of Agriculture is holding its much-touted “Spring Gathering” at the Chapple rec centre in Barwick, complete with a pig roast.
Humorous cowboy poet “Rhymin” Diamond Doug Keith, from Domain, Man., will be topping off an evening entertainment program designed especially to build community spirit.
Admission is $10, with advance tickets advised but not essential. Children under six eat free, and there will be a supervised play area for youngsters.
Shaw Cable will be on hand to videotape the affair.
Meanwhile, Emo residents will be gambling or curling Saturday night.
The spray park committee is planning a “casino night,” also featuring live and silent auctions, dancing to Yowza, and a lunch, starting at 7 p.m. at the Emo-La Vallee Community Centre.
The spray park committee is hoping the newly-motivated, community-minded people from the Barwick event will drop in on their way home and help to further everyone’s cause.
Meanwhile, the Emo Curling Club is holding a league wind-up mini-bonspiel. It starts on Friday evening and runs through Saturday, with a steak supper that evening.
Over in Devlin, residents will be celebrating the golden wedding anniversary of Ted and Faye Davis with a potluck supper, dancing, and good wishes at the Devlin Hall beginning at 6 p.m.
The couple operated a tourist camp on the Lower Manitou for many years.
Friends and relatives from all over, including many friends from 45 years in the tourist business, are planning to attend.
