Mary-Catherine Kelly, director of the Northwest Catholic District School Board, yesterday announced the board has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Literacy/Numeracy Secretariat of the Ministry of Education.
The project is called “Leading and Learning—Digging Deeper to Improve Student Achievement.”
This project will concentrate on further developing the leadership skills and professional knowledge of the principals, vice-principals, and school improvement teams within the Northwest Catholic District School Board.
The funding will help the board offer a variety of professional development sessions, including:
•Using our data from the School Effectiveness Framework. Using EQAO data to help narrow our focus for school and board improvement planning.
•Honing our diagnostic, observational skills of the leadership team.
•Developing teacher leadership skills through the school improvement team.
•Purchasing resources to support student success.
Our professional goal is to provide our leaders, along with our school improvement teams and literacy coaches, with a variety of job-embedded professional development learning experiences that will build capacity from within the organization.
Our focus will be on improving student achievement in a Catholic learning environment.
