A total of 14 organizations and individuals, looking to get a share of funds the town has been allotted by the Moffat Family Fund, filed their applications at the Civic Centre by last Friday’s deadline.
The local committee will meet today to review the submissions and decide which applicants are allocated how much.
The selection committee is comprised of Mayor Roy Avis, Couns. Andrew Hallikas and Sharon Tibbs, Fort Frances CAO Mark McCaig, Linda Hamilton, local Salvation Army Capt. Angel Sandoval, and Marie Howells.
The selection committee’s recommendations then will be sent in to the Winnipeg Foundation prior to the March 31 deadline for final approval.
Recipients likely will receive cheques for their share of the $50,000 sometime in May or June.
Nine successful applicants for a portion of the town’s $50,000 allotment of the Moffat Family Fund were given their cheques last July.
The Fort Frances Public Library received $15,500 while the Fort Frances chapter of Kidsport got $10,500.
The local Salvation Army was given $6,000, the Fort Frances Special Olympics got $5,000, and the Fort Frances Visserettes and Boys Gymnastics received $4,000.
The Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau and Family and Children’s Services each got $2,500.
Rounding out the final two recipients, the 908 Rainy Lake Air Cadet Squadron and Kiwanis Club of Fort Frances each received $2,000.
A total of 23 organizations and individuals filed applications last year.
This is the sixth-straight year the Moffat Family Fund allotted the town tens of thousands of dollars to give to Fort Frances-based groups that benefit children, families, and the less-advantaged.
