Youth bowlers advance

Several local youth bowlers will be representing Sunset Country at the provincial roll-offs March 2 in Thunder Bay.
The Junior girls’ team—consisting of Caitlyn Townson, Natasha Petawanaqueb, Tori Hebert, Danielle Bois, Lena Morelli, and coach Bob Petawanaqueb—advanced after capturing the gold medal at the zone roll-offs in Dryden earlier this month.
Lyle Dolph (junior boys) and Joey Ballan (senior boys) qualified in the singles portion of the “4-Steps-to Stardom” tournament courtesy of their gold-medal performances in Atikokan back in December.
They will compete against four other zones in Thunder Bay for berths at the national roll-offs in Edmonton in May.
Meanwhile, three other local teams earned silver medals at the zone roll-offs in Dryden on Feb. 10, including the Bantam boys’ squad of Shaye McCormick, Brent Morand, Aric Supinski, Raymond Polz, Riley Pollard, and Jason Rousseau (coach).
The Bantam girls (Amber Townson, Jonelle Haas, Jordyn Ahrens, Marita Matias, Tatum Hebert, and coach Glenna Morand) also won silver, as did the Junior boys’ team (Dallas Gervais, Brendan Morand, Brody Asselin, Eric Bois, Chris Beauchemin, and coach Kathy Bois).
Earning the bronze medal in Dryden was the local Senior boys’ team of Tyler Good, Donny Brown, Jordan Sokoliak, Travis Bois, Daniel Murray, and coach Jamie McKenny.
