Those who enjoy the musical hits of ABBA, Rod Stewart, and Tina Turner won’t want to miss a concert slated for Saturday, March 1 at the Townshend Theatre here.
“ABBAmania” will offer up one night of performances by these legends, featuring Dave Battah as Stewart, Sonia Ndongmo as Turner, and the London Symphony Orchestra Violins.
“We wanted to come to Fort Frances—small towns are great,” enthused Garry Lichach of Bounty Enterprises, which produces the show.
“We really hope people come out and see it,” he added. “It’s going to be a great night. They’ll be talking about this for a long time.”
Although they are the number-one production of ABBA in the world, and they have performed in plenty of huge venues, Lichach noted they treat all performances the same—whether it’s a large show or a small one.
He said it was just “a fluke” the show will be staged in Fort Frances. They are scheduled to appear in Thunder Bay on Feb. 29 and with an opening the following evening, someone mentioned to him of the nice Townshend Theatre.
“Rather than flying back to Toronto, I said, ‘Let’s just go to Fort Frances,’” Lichach recalled.
After discovering the theatre was free that evening, Lichach made to necessary arrangements to bring the show to residents of Rainy River District.
He vowed it’s going to be an excellent show.
“It’s an all-Canadian cast, with authentic costumes, dialogue, the look, the vocals and we bring a live band. . . . And we do all the hits—everything from ‘Waterloo’ to ‘Dancing Queen,’” he stressed, noting the opening acts are Stewart and Turner.
“These people are so talented that they are going to think it’s Tine Turner and Rod Stewart,” he added.
Tickets, which Lichach said normally cost anywhere from $40-$80, will be just $30 for the Fort Frances performance. They are available at Northwoods Gallery & Gifts on Scott Street.
The show begins at 7:30 p.m., and will run about two-and-a-half hours.
