Pharmasave takes third

The second half of the 10th-annual Fort Frances Girls’ Hockey Association tournament was held over weekend.
In all, six Novice, six Atom, and five Midget squads took to the ice.
Local squads competing included the Rolling Lake Lightning “white” and “black” teams (Novice), Kaemingh Esso and Lakewood Tire (Atom) and Pharmasave (Midget).
In Novice action, the Rolling Lake Lightning “white” team lost a 4-3 overtime thriller to the Kenora Sabrecats in the fifth-place game while the “black” squad dropped a 2-1 squeaker to Dryden Bert’s Towing in the bronze-medal showdown.
The championship went to the International Falls 8U squad, who upended Kenora White Lightning 6-3 to claim Novice gold.
In Atom play, Kaemingh Esso took on an undefeated Dryden Ice Bergs team in the championship final.

Lakewood Tire, meanwhile, skated four times on the weekend, eventually dropping a narrow 5-3 decision to the Dryden GM Blazers in the fifth-place game.
And on the Midget side, Pharmasave improved day by day on the weekend, eventually reaching the bronze-medal match Sunday afternoon.
