The second half of the 10th-annual Fort Frances Girls’ Hockey Tournament got underway this afternoon at both the ’52 Canadians and Ice for Kids arenas.
With the first half of the tournament last weekend featuring PeeWee and Bantam teams, this weekend’s event features six teams in the Novice division, six in the Atom division, and five Midget squads.
Fort Frances is represented in the Novice division by the Rolling Lake Lightning split squads (RLL White and RLL Black).
Lakewood Tire and Kaemingh Esso represent the Fort Frances Girls’ Hockey Association in the Atom division while Pharmasave is the local team on the Midget side.
The puck dropped at noon today with the Rolling Lake Lightning Black crew taking on the International Falls 8U girls. The Rolling Lake white squad faced off at 2 p.m., also in the ’52 Canadians Arena, against the Kenora Black Sabrecats.
In the Atom division, Lakewood Tire entertained the International Falls 10U girls at 12:15 p.m. in the Ice for Kids arena while Kaemingh Esso began play at 2:45 p.m. against the Dryden Flames.
And in Midget action, Pharmasave locked horns with the Dryden Bruins at 1:15 p.m. in Ice For Kids, which will be followed with a game at 6:30 p.m. against the Dryden Eliminators in the ’52 Canadians Arena.
Play continues all day Saturday, with the Novice final slated for Sunday at 10:30 a.m. (’52 Canadians), the Atom final at 11:15 a.m. (Ice for Kids), and the Midget final at 2:15 p.m. (Ice for Kids).
