An intimate crowd of 125 people turned out last night to the Fort Frances Museum’s presentation of the play “Rope’s End” at the Townshend Theatre as part of the Manitoba Theatre Centre’s Regional Tour 2008.
The play, which was meant to be a fundraiser for the museum, instead saw a bit of a loss due to the low attendance.
“It’s too bad because we really want to encourage theatre coming to the community, so we’ll have to see if they bring it in next year or not,” museum curator Pam Hawley noted.
“But I think everyone there really enjoyed it,” she added. “And it was a really great opportunity for some of the drama students to get the experience of live theatre.”
Students from Fort High also helped the company set up and take down the set.
Written by Douglas Bowie, “Rope’s End” is a romantic comedy with a two-member cast. It follows film critic Toby as he contacts the love of his life, Marisa, after 31 years.
There also was a “unique penny auction” in the lobby during the play featuring some of the paintings of the late local artist Millie Eide-Gladu.
Hawley noted Eide-Gladu’s paintings still are available at the museum to view and purchase.
