Book worms will be happy to know the Kenora-Rainy River branch of the Alzheimer Society of Canada’s fourth-annual book sale here begins tomorrow.
The fundraiser will take place at Revco Carpet (950 Fifth St. W.) tomorrow and Friday from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m., and again Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. (it will end a little earlier on Saturday so organizers can head back to Kenora that evening).
The public can drop by the store during those hours, fill a bag with books, and then make a donation to the Alzheimer Society.
“It’s a very good event,” Margaret Schonewille, executive director of the local Alzheimer Society, said Monday. “I phoned [Revco] this morning and they said the books are coming in on a fairly regular basis.
“I know I have a number of nearly brand new books I’m bringing down from Kenora to add to the pile. There should be a real variety,” she added, noting those who want first crack at the best books should come to Revco on Thursday.
Schonewille said the book sale has become an event that’s much anticipated by some district residents.
“I was doing the penny weigh-in at Canadian Tire and people were stopping by, saying they were looking forward to the book sale,” she recalled. “That’s nice they are talking about it.
“The more people we have, the better it will be.”
Meanwhile, those who didn’t get a chance to drop off pennies at the “Penny for your thoughts” weigh-in last month are welcome to bring them in to Schonewille at the book sale.
While they won’t be weighed and no prizes will be given out, she’ll be happy to take that collected copper off your hands.
Like all the other fundraising events for the Alzheimer Society of Kenora-Rainy River District, proceeds will go towards further promotion of Alzheimer awareness and education in both districts—not to a provincial or national organization.
