Fort Frances’ own KC Knights won the big prize over the weekend—handily winning the championship of their own PeeWee ‘AA’ tournament Sunday afternoon at the Memorial Sports Centre.
The Knights dumped the Kenora Thistles 6-1 on the back of Jordan Larson, who netted a hat trick and added a pair of assists in the final.
Also scoring for the Knights were Colton Spicer (two) and Nolan Ross. Scott Parsons earned the win between the pipes.
Meanwhile, the Dakota Lazers beat the Dryden Paper Kings 3-1 on Sunday in the ‘B’ final.
The Thunder Bay Norwest 12s nipped their cross-town rival Thunder Bay KC Sabres 3-2 for the ‘A’ consolation title while their younger counterparts, the Thunder Bay Norwest 11s, decimated Red Lake 15-0 for the ‘B’ consolation crown.
The KC Knights looked almost too able as hosts, opening the eight-team tournament with a 10-0 win over Dryden on Friday morning and never looking back.
They wrapped up round-robin play with a 4-2 win over the Norwest 12s and a 14-0 thumping of Red Lake, then beat the Thunder Bay KC Sabres 5-1 to earn a berth in the ‘A’ final.
Fort Frances Minor Hockey next will host an Atom ‘A’ tournament this coming weekend, with the first match between Causeway and the Emo Hawks slated for 8:45 a.m. on Friday.
The ‘A’ final is set to go Sunday at 1 p.m.
