Muskie girls top Bears

The Lake of the Woods Bears once again were unable to stop the Muskie girls’ hockey team as the black-and-gold battled back for a 5-4 victory in an exhibition game yesterday in Rainy River.
The Bears opened the scoring and led 4-2 after the second period before the Muskies took over the game with three unanswered goals in the third.
Kristen Penner led Fort High with two goals and two assists. Nina Bird also netted a pair of goals along with an assist, with Lauren Krukoski tallying the other goal.
Sara Trendiak started the game in goal but was spelled after the fourth goal by a solid Katie Stearns.
While it wasn’t the outcome the Bears had wanted, they showed a lot more fight than the two teams’ last meeting—a 5-0 Muskie win back on Dec. 4.
The black-and-gold next host the Eveleth Golden Bears in another exhibition match tomorrow. Game time is set for 2 p.m. in the ’52 Canadians Arena.
