Creative ideas wanted

No matter what the form or medium (be it visual, performance, literary, musical, or digital), art helps add colour, vibrancy, and beauty to our world and our lives.
Whether you are a creator or an appreciator of the arts (or both), we’d like to tell you about an innovative and interesting opportunity to help build something new for our community.
Kristen Bailey, Northern Arts Development co-ordinator for the Northwest Business Centre, is calling for ideas to help establish an “Arts Accelerator” for the Kenora area.
“An ‘Arts Accelerator’ would promote collaboration between individual artists and across disciplines by providing a gathering space for artistic activities,” noted Bailey.
“Some of the possible amenities that could be included in such a facility are affordable studio space, performance space, and educational/workshop space.
“It would aim to complement Kenora’s existing arts venues and fuel the city’s creative energy,” she added.
At this point, Bailey is undertaking a feasibility study aimed at establishing the needs and wants of the arts community, and indeed the community at large.
This is a chance to get in on the ground floor of this project and provide input on how an “Arts Accelerator” could best be used by all of us.
This project is a first for the Kenora area—and we want to do it right. And that means we need your help.
If you have creative concepts on how you’d like to see an “Arts Accelerator” work, join Bailey at an open house on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lake of the Woods Business Incentive Corp. office (227 Second St. S. in Kenora).
Come armed with ideas and help us create not only a fresh, exciting venue, but a unique opportunity for artists and arts-lovers alike.
RSVP to Bailey as soon as possible if you plan to attend so we can ensure adequate seating.
