School fire probed

On Christmas Eve around 12:45 p.m., the Fort Frances Fire & Rescue Service responded to the report of a fire alarm at St. Michael’s School at 820 Fifth St. E. here.
Upon arrival, fire personnel observed heavy smoke and fire coming from the southeast windows and roof area of the building.
The fire damaged one classroom extensively, with substantial smoke damage throughout the rest of the school.
The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported by the fire department from battling the blaze.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation and confirmed damage estimates were not yet available.
Firefighters were on scene for about three-and-a-half hours.
