Suspension issued for speeding

On Friday around 9:13 a.m., a South Port, Man. resident received the district’s first seven-day administrative driver’s licence suspension.
Rainy River OPP officers stopped a 200 Chevrolet Cavalier travelling at 150 km/h in a posted 90-km/h zone along Highway #11 in Chapple Township.
As a result of legislation introduced earlier this year, the individual received the suspension and had his vehicle impounded for seven days.
The person is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 6 to answer to the speeding charge.
At 2:11 a.m. on Saturday, Fort Frances OPP officers responded to a motor vehicle accident on Victoria Avenue.
As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old Fort Frances man was charged with fail to remain at the scene of an accident, driving a motor vehicle while impaired, and driving with a blood alcohol level over 80 mg.
He was arrested and subsequently released, and is scheduled to appear in court here Dec. 17.
Also Saturday at 10:15 p.m., another 38-year-old Fort Frances man was stopped after he failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Central Avenue and Scott Street.
Investigation revealed the man to have been drinking. He was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level over 80 mg.
He was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 14.
