Speaking out

Dear Mr. Editor:
I would like to thank Mr. Ken Grynol for his recent letter to the editor. Each and every person who has a view on the subject of decisions made on our behalf by town council should be writing letters to the editor.
I am also happy that Mr. Grynol is in favour of Mr. Perry replacing Ms. Drysdale on council by succession, as per past practice and history. We agree the expense of a byelection is unnecessary given this past practice and precedent.
By the way, this precedent was established in several municipalities, and just two weeks ago Thunder Bay replaced a council seat by succession of ballot rather than holding a byelection.
To further expand on Mr. Grynol’s support of succession, and if he agrees, does he not ask himself why this council is so opposed to the voters’ next-in-line choice for office.
Is this not a community question? Are they afraid of Mr. Perry or the other candidates in line by succession?
Have you heard any valid reasons why Mr. Perry should not be appointed, other than they (council) feel they should ignore the recent election results, past practice, and hold another costly election?
I will not forfeit my right to speak out when I believe strongly we, the taxpayers, are being ignored, not listened to, or sitting in a second- or third-class seat to special interest politics in this town.
As for letting my name stand for the office of mayor, all it takes is one resignation, past mayor Dan Onichuk to decline the position by succession, and a special appointment by council.
The way I feel today, I’d accept Mr. Grynol’s invite to the mayor’s position. There would be one hell of a change in Fort Frances politics.
