Full agreement

Dear editor:
I would like to commend Bill Krukoski on his letter to the editor printed in the Fort Frances Times on Oct. 17 regarding a byelection to fill the vacant council seat.
I, as a taxpayer, agree with Bill 100 percent.
I was at a social function on Oct. 19 and mentioned to people I saw there about Bill’s letter—and showed them the one I was writing in support of his position on the issue of a byelection.
Within a half-hour, I had 50 people who put their signatures to the letter I had written.
If you agree with this letter, and Bill’s letter to the editor, please let your mayor and council know how you feel in regards to their method of filling the empty council seat.
In deference to limited space allotted, I cannot include all 50 signatures but the original letter is in my possession. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions.

P.S. After drafting this letter, I found out that the clerk already has drawn up a bylaw to call for a byelection and this issue will come before council for a vote on Monday, Oct. 22.
I have been informed that nothing can be done about this.
Being that notification of this bylaw was not widely published, as a taxpayer I demand that myself, and the 50 people who signed my letter, along with many others who support Bill’s stance, have some input as to how the choice is made to fill empty council seats.
This is an issue only because council has deviated from the norm, which is to appoint the person receiving the next-most votes, which indicates the choice of the voters, not the choice of the council.
