‘Worst roads’ campaign winding down

Five days remain for Ontarians to send a loud and clear message to Dalton McGuinty, John Tory, and Howard Hampton to fix Ontario’s neglected roads and bridges.
Commuters can make their voices heard by casting their electronic ballot online at www.worstroads.ca
Alternatively, they can cast a paper ballot at CAA stores across Ontario or at select CAA-approved garages.
“Through this campaign, we have travelled across the province listening to Ontarians who have told us they’re fed up with the costs of driving on Ontario’s roads,” said Kris Barnier, Provincial Affairs Specialist, CAA Ontario.
“Not only do they pay gas tax and registration fees that are not dedicated to fixing our roads, but they are paying exorbitant costs to repair the damage that these roads do to their vehicles,” Barnier added.
Now in its fifth year, Ontario’s Worst Municipal Roads campaign gives Ontarians the opportunity to let elected officials and candidates, at all levels, know that they want their roads fixed.
Over the past five years, municipal governments have taken action—or have committed to take action—to fix 95 percent of the roads named to the annual Top 20 Worst Municipal Roads list.
Voting for Ontario’s Worst Municipal Roads, which began on Aug. 20, ends this Sunday (Sept. 30).
Voters who log on to www.worstroads.ca also can send an electronic postcard to their mayor and/or the party leaders of their choice that says they want their provincial gas taxes spent fixing their local roads and bridges.
Final results will be announced by the end of the first week of October, following the tabulation of online and paper ballots and a physical inspection of the roads.
