Crash kills motorcyclist

A 33-year-old Saskatchewan man is dead after a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon on Highway 71 near Tower Lake.
Kenora OPP said three motorcycles were northbound when the lead vehicle lost control.
The driver fell off onto the highway while the motorcycle crossed the road, went through the guardrails, and came to rest in the west ditch.
The driver was transported to Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora via air ambulance but his injuries proved fatal, police said.
The name of the victim was not released by police.
The highway was closed for several hours while a technical traffic collision investigator from the Kenora OPP detachment assisted at the scene.
In other news, a Sioux Narrows man, 36, was charged with careless operation of a vessel following a boating collision on Lake of the Woods south of Yellow Girl Point.
An investigation by the marine unit from the Kenora OPP revealed that occupants of a 17-foot Ranger were participating in the “Bassin’ for Bass” tournament based out of Sioux Narrows.
While sitting stationary in the water, they noted an 18-foot Lund heading for their vessel. One of the occupants in the Ranger jumped out of the boat prior to the collision, police noted.
No serious injuries were sustained, police added, although there was serious damage to both boats.
