With the provincial election just a month away, campaign signs are expected to start appearing around town anytime now.
And voters in the Kenora-Rainy River riding will have four candidates to choose from when they fill out their ballots.
On Saturday, incumbent MPP and party leader Howard Hampton was acclaimed as the NDP candidate.
Local Liberals chose Mike Wood, a Dryden city councillor, to represent their party back in August.
Meanwhile, Kenora resident Penny Lucas is representing the Progressive Conservative party.
She is an administrative assistant at Confederation College, as well as vice-chair of the Kenora District Services Board, vice-chair of the District of Kenora Homes for the Aged board of directors, and chair of the Wilderness Riders snowmobile club (Kenora branch).
And Jojo Holiday, also from Kenora, is the Green Party candidate. She is a professional homeopath at the BodyWorks Studio there.
Just a reminder that besides voting for an MPP on Oct. 10, district residents also will have their say on a referendum question.
The province currently is distributing pamphlets informing voters the question will be: “Which electoral system should Ontario use to elect members to the provincial legislature?” with the two options being:
•the existing electoral system (First-Past-the-Post); or
•the alternate electoral system proposed by the Citizens’ Assembly (mixed member proportional).
